The Mitsubishi 3000GT TwinTurbo

General Information and modifications

Here are some pics of the newly installed Greddy Type S BOV :

With the proper flange provided by GT PRO, the installation was easy and it fits to the same position as the stock valve. The left picture shows the tight situation as the tranny linkeage is pretty close.

This is the brand new front of my car as it was replaced due an accident. A small VW Rabbit slippered on icy streets and kissed my cars front. Not a big bang as only the plastic cracked a little but the inner supporters where bent too.

Great transparent view of a 94+ style 3000GT (no pop-up lights) showing all the important parts of the car :)

The 3000GT is a great high performance all-day/all-weather/all-season Car ! After 1 year I went to a tuning shop who added a small bleeder valve to increase the turbos boost and dyno-tuned it (ODB-II programming, they said...) to get out the most of it. The dyno-chart below shows the impressive measured figures (on the wheels, EU norm).

But as my Camaro found new parts it's more than fair also to give the 3000GT some new horses :

Air intake modification

The K&N FIPK (Filter Injcection Performance Kit) consists of the filter element (K&N Filtercharger) and the small adapter to the existing MAF sensor box showed on the left of this picture. The G-Tech Pro test showed a gain of 0.14 sec on a 1/4 mile !
This is how the installed K&N FIPK looks like in my car. Also, you can see the vacuum hose attached to the HKS SBOV routed over the MAF box

Exhaust modification

Sitting on the floor :

The BORLA stainless steel exhaust is a 3" bolt-on Cat-Back system (best bang-for-the-buck !) I expect much better flowing of this system as the european models do not have the adjustable exhausts and the stock resonator box is flow-restrictive. Unfortunately the tips look very huge abd I'd like the stock look much more. Hmmm, we'll see after the installation :)

New Wheels

The O.Z. Mito 2 modular wheels where the only officially available ones for my car here in Switzerland. The only drawback is the inner part of the wheels as they are angled outside the rims. This because the brake calipers are so huge and the Mito 2 are large too in the mid. It's hard to explain and I hope to get a pic sometimes that expains it :) I got them together with Dunlop SP8000 245/45-17 mounted. For the comming Spring I need new tires but I haven't still decided what to get (tires are expensive here !)

Some other modifications

A very close view to the SBOV output

The HKS SBOV (Sequential Blow Off Valve) is a nice and well documented system that protects the Turbos of back boost and allows quicker recovery of them. This will not improve any hp but definitely helped in recovery after shifting to 2nd and 3rd. I gained more than 0.1sec on the 1/4mile due to the BOV (measured with G-Tech Pro)
